Customer needs: We were contacted by a customer who required a scaffold to this building in Littlehampton for general repair works and also a platform for accessing the roof. The properties in South terrace are usually tall 4 storey buildings, so we quoted £1680 for the scaffolding which included a 6-week rental period.
Difficulties we faced: None were encountered during the erection of this scaffolding, as our scaffolders have erected scaffold platforms in different areas of these buildings many times in the past, so we know the location very well. We had clear access to the rear elevation of this house and the area where we needed to erect the scaffold tower. What we did: We erected a scaffolding structure that was approximately 12 metres high by 4 metres long and just over 2.4m (8ft) deep to provide our customer with access to a small area at the back of the property, so that general repair works could be completed.
We installed 6 working lifts that were all fully boarded and 10 boards wide. Double handrails and toe boards were fixed on all lifts as fall protection. The first lift was installed with a ladder gate and each working platform had fixed ladder access reaching to the top. The 6th lift was to provide access to the tiles for repair works, and so this scaffolding lift was situated at gutter level so our client could easily reach the roof line.
Hire period: We provided our customer with a 6 week hire period because the work being undertaken was more than likely ging to take longer than our standard 4 weeks rental period. The client used the scaffolding for the full 6 weeks before contacting us to remove it.
