In general, a chimney scaffolding is usually a tower that is erected to eaves height and then additional framework will be installed up the roof depending on where the chimney is situated to reach the bottom of the chimney stack.
However if you require access around all 4 sides of a chimney and it is situated on the ridge of the roof then you would require a type of structure called a saddle scaffolding. This is where we would “saddle” over the roof ridge by building the scaffold structure up and over the other side of the ridge using steel scaffolding tubes which are rested on scaffold boards made from timber on top of the roof tiles and then vertical tubes are then attached to these so a platform area can then be erected from there, additional lifts may be required depending on how high the chimney is.
We are experts when it comes to erecting access to chimneys. We know that no job is the same and each property or building will have its chimneys situated on different parts of a roof and that is certainly not a problem for us as we have a solution for every type of scenario and our skilled and highly experienced scaffolders will put up a safe working platform so you can get your work done.
A Chimney scaffolding is erected to provide access to the roof and chimney area to carry out various works including:
Installation of a new flue.
Repair existing flue.
Chimney flashing repair or replacement.
Re-pointing the stack.
Demolishing a stack.
General repairs.
Install of a new stack.
This is a similar type of scaffold but is used as a solution where a normal chimney saddle scaffolding is unfeasible due to the position of the chimney and the works taking place.
This is what all scaffolding companies should adhere to when erecting scaffolds to the roof area on any property. It is the ultimate guide of preventing falls in scaffolding operations. Click here and scroll down to section 4 (page 32) for the Chimney stack guide.
We have worked on many different projects that have required access to a chimney and this includes:
We are unable to give an exact figure on this page as we require a lot of information about the type of access you require. For example, we would need to know the following:
There are no two chimneys or roofs that are the same and on many occasions in order to price the works we would need to arrange a site visit to determine the amount of scaffold required.
However, as a rough guide a bungalow chimney scaffold would start from around the £300 mark and to access a stack on a 2-storey building would usually start from £400+. The price would increase if either requires a saddle scaffolding around all sides.
We can also include in our quote a price to hire a 250kg Gin wheel as an alternative way of carrying materials and equipment from the ground to the platform area, this is an optional extra.
