Chimney scaffold, Hardy Close, Horsham, RH12

Chimney access scaffold, Hardy Close, Horsham

Service type: Chimney stack scaffold.

Address: Hardy Close, Horsham, RH12.

Customer needs: We were asked to supply a quotation to erect and dismantle a scaffold structure on the side of a 2-storey property in Horsham so that our customer could gain access to the top and sides of the chimney for repointing works. We quoted £650 with a 4-week rental period.

Difficulties we faced: We were required to erect this scaffold on the external side of the fence as there was not enough room down the side of the property for the scaffold legs (uprights) to sit. This section of grass was classed as private land, so no pavement licence was required.

What we did:

  • Our scaffolders erected a 2.4m wide by 6 metres tall scaffold tower that was 3 lifts high.
  • Two lifts were fully boarded on this structure.
  • The first lift was 6 boards deep, which provided fixed ladder access to the 3rd working platform.
  • A hi-visibility ladder gate was installed on the lower boarded platform, and a ladder trap door was installed on the top 3rd lift for safety.
  • Double handrails and toe boards were installed to prevent falling from height on all boarded lifts.
  • The top lift was erected around two sides of the base of the chimney.
  • Scaffold boards were placed on the roof tiles so the scaffolding tubes could rest on them to prevent damage or breakages.
  • The left side of this chimney scaffold featured a 3-board deep platform; however, the right-hand side was only a 2-board deep platform due to minimal space.
  • 8ft brace tubes were installed throughout this structure to ensure the tower’s stability.
  • 3x 10ft sway braces were also fixed to this scaffold using swivel couplers to prevent movement and swaying.

Hire period: A 4-week hire period was given to allow ample time to complete the repointing works on this chimney.

As experienced scaffolders, we handle a wide range of scaffolding projects in Horsham and the RH12 postcode, including chimney repairs, dormer installations, and solar panel work. We also delivered similar safe access for a local homeowner with this dormer roof scaffold in The Plat, ensuring the roofers had a stable platform to work efficiently.
