Base Plates – Load Distributor Fitting

Price range: £1.90 through £2.65 ex. VAT

Our Base Plates are essential load-distribution fittings for scaffolds. These robust steel components are designed to sit beneath 48.3mm scaffolding tube uprights (standards or legs). They spread the load evenly across the ground, preventing sinking into soft or uneven surfaces and ensuring a stable, secure scaffold setup every time. Measuring 150mm x 150mm with a 50mm-tall, 34mm-diameter central spigot for secure tube fit, these plates come in two thicknesses: 2mm for light-duty work on firm surfaces (weighing just 0.35kg) or 5mm for heavy-duty applications on uneven terrain (0.9kg). These base plates have been crafted from durable pressed steel; they’re compatible with standard 48.3mm scaffold tubes and feature handy holes for nailing to sole boards. They are built to last, protect surfaces, and enhance safety.

Select the required thickness, either 2mm or 5mm, from the drop-down menu below for your scaffold base plates.

Our base plates shine in everyday scaffolding scenarios where stability is non-negotiable. Use the 2mm version for standard jobs like residential renovations, window cleaning, or lightweight access towers on concrete driveways. It’s lightweight and quick to deploy without sacrificing strength. For tougher gigs, such as commercial builds on loose soil or industrial maintenance over gravel, the 5mm heavy-duty plate steps up, handling heavier loads and rougher terrain with ease. They’re a staple in roofing projects, facade work, and event staging, often teamed with sole boards to spread weight on turf or sand. No matter the site, these fittings adapt to keep your scaffold level and your workflow smooth, saving time and reducing the risk of costly adjustments.

Safety isn’t an afterthought; it’s engineered in. Our base plates distribute loads to prevent leg sinkage, which could otherwise cause tilts, collapses, or accidents no one wants on site. Always inspect for wear before use, and never overload beyond recommended capacities. They’re fully compliant with BS EN 74 standards, the gold standard for UK and European scaffold fittings, ensuring they’re load-tested for reliability. We recommend pairing with sole boards on soft ground and following HSE guidelines for assembly. When used properly, these plates help you meet site regulations effortlessly, protecting your crew and your reputation.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ’s)

It’s a flat steel square that goes under your scaffold legs to spread out the weight, stopping the structure from digging into the ground and keeping everything steady. The central pin locks the tube in place for rock-solid alignment.

The 2mm plate works great on hard, even surfaces like pavement, while the 5mm handles softer or bumpy areas better. For really unstable spots, add a sole board underneath.

They’re made to BS EN 74 specs, covering load safety and fit for standard UK scaffolding peace of mind from a trusted supplier.

Use the built-in holes to nail or bolt it to a wooden sole board; it’s a simple step that locks everything down tight.

Thinner 2mm is lighter for everyday jobs on stable ground; 5mm is beefier for heavy lifts or tricky terrain, offering more durability without much extra hassle.

The height of the centre spigot is approximately 50mm.

They fit all standard steel scaffolding tubes with a 48.3mm outer diameter and slide securely over the base plate’s central spigot.

In addition to standard scaffolding tubes, several accessories are typically utilised with scaffold base plates. Sole boards, which are wooden planks positioned beneath the base plate, help distribute the load across a wider surface area, particularly on softer terrain. Yellow tredda plates are safety devices placed under the metal base plate to minimise tripping hazards, especially in environments with limited lighting.
