Customer needs: A quote was requested to gain access to the top of a 2nd floor bay window to repair the roof above it and another platform to fix the lead valley. This was on a high street building in Arundel and required a pavement licence. We quoted this customer £550.00 with 4 weeks hire plus £201.50 for the permit.
Difficulties we faced: No issues arose when erecting this structure, and our scaffolders could park our lorry directly outside the building to offload the equipment. Extra safety measures were needed because the scaffolding was placed on a pedestrian pathway, and the general public still needed to be able to access the shop.
What we did: Our scaffolders erected a structure to the front of this 2-storey building, approximately 8.0 metres in length and 1.5m deep. The left-hand side was roughly 6.0 metres high, and the right-hand section was nearly 5.0 metres high.
First, we put up an 8.0m long by 2 lift high scaffold across the front of the building. We then boarded out a 4-metre section on the right-hand side, and this was for our customer to access the lead valley on the roof. This part of the scaffolding was 6 scaffold boards wide with a safety ladder gate fitted. We also added triple handrails and kicker boards around the external area of this working platform.
We then added a 3rd lift on the left of the building that was approx 6.0m high. This section of scaffolding was around a bay window to access the tiled roof, and just as the lower working platform was also 6 boards wide with double handrails and toe-boards around the edge. We also provided a ladder to access the 3rd lift from the 2nd working lift. Other information
Hire period: A 4-week rental period was supplied along with a licence for the same amount of time. Our customer needed to complete all repair works within this period; otherwise, we would have to apply for an extension to the permit. The client completed the work in plenty of time.
