Service type: Painters and decorating scaffold.
Address: The Old Wareham Mews, Littlehampton, BN17.
Customer needs: A Littlehampton based customer contacted us as they needed a scaffold to the front and rear of a three-storey mews so that both elevations could be redecorated.
Difficulties we faced: A pavement licence was applied for and granted because the scaffold would be placed on a pedestrianised area. We were also required to keep both sides of the car entrance area clear so vehicles could still pass through.
What we did: We erected the front of the property first and this was approximately 12 metres in length and three lifts high but only two of the three lifts needed boarding. Each working lift was four boards wide and had double safety rails and toe boards. We also installed debris netting to both lifts as an additional safety measure. As you will see from the photos there was a large entrance where vehicles came in and out. We were required to keep this clear at all times so we had to install aluminium lattice beams to support the scaffold as we were unable to place our upright tube in that area as we would usually do.
All tube at ground level had high visibility foam added to them for public safety. Plastic tredda plates were placed underneath the baseplates to protect the ground and passers-by.
The rear of this property was then erected, which was very similar to the front. It was approximately 12 metres long and 7 metres high. This elevation also had three lifts but again only two lifts were used as access. Both of these working platforms were 5 boards wide and had double guard rails and footer boards. Debris netting was installed for increased safety. Aluminium beams were also added to the rear elevation to keep the other side of the car entrance clear. We were also required to add an additional small fourth lift to this structure, which was on the right-hand side of the back of the building. This scaffold lift had to be ‘spurred’ up so we could allow access for the side return.
Full ladder access was supplied to both scaffolds front and back. This setup is typical of our specialist painters’ scaffolds – providing secure, multi-lift platforms for external painting, decorating, and redecoration on multi-storey homes with full fall protection and minimal site disruption.

Hire period: Our customer was given four weeks hire and used the scaffold for the full four weeks. Here is another recent Littlehampton project: scaffold for flat roof replacement on Colebrook Road – high tower access with gin wheel for safe materials handling.
