Scaffolding platforms for repointing work on the front of this large detached property in Worthing

Repointing scaffold, Shelley road, Worthing

Service type: Scaffold for repointing works.

Address: Shelley Road, Worthing, BN11.

Customer needs: This customer requested a quotation from us to supply, erect, and dismantle access scaffolding so that the entire 2nd-floor area, plus 2 apexes, on this large property could be repointed. We quoted £1800, including 4 weeks’ rental, for this West Sussex scaffolding project. As specialist scaffolders in Worthing, we regularly provide access solutions for repointing and maintenance on flats and period properties across BN11.

Difficulties we faced: This was a straightforward structure with close parking for our vehicles, clear access and plenty of room for our scaffolding erectors to manoeuvre and put up the scaffold. We ensured that any exit points were clear, as this property comprised 9 self-contained flats, so we had to make sure there was ample space for the flat owners to come and go.

What our scaffolders did:

  • We began by erecting a structure that was 22 metres long and approximately 4.5 metres high.
  • This scaffold featured two lifts, with the second being the working platform.
  • Two additional hop-ups were needed on either end so our customer could reach the top of the apexes.
  • The right-hand side hop-up was 2.4 metres wide and approximately 7 metres high from the ground.
  • The left-hand one was slightly wider at 5.5 metres long and 7 metres tall.
  • We were required to add two small returns scaffolds as the centre of the building stepped in from the rest of the property..

Other information

  • The working platforms and both hop-ups were five scaffolding boards wide.
  • All-access areas had double handrails and toeboards for fall protection.
  • Fixed ladder access was supplied.
  • Ladder gates were installed at all entrances of the working platforms.
  • The second lift was installed just underneath the 2nd-floor windows.
  • We provided clear access to this building’s entrance and exit points wherever they were required.

Hire period: We gave our customer a hire period of 4-weeks. This would allow them enough time to complete their repointing work on the entire front of the building. For another local repointing example in the Worthing area, see our repointing scaffold in Limbrick Lane, Goring, a straightforward 2-lift platform setup for similar brickwork access.
