Customer needs: This customer requested a quotation because they required a scaffold to be erected on their 2-storey listed property for inspections and roof repair work. We quoted £650 for this scaffolding structure with 8 weeks hire included in the price. Difficulties we faced: There were no issues when putting up this scaffold. We were just required to take extra care whilst erecting and dismantling the scaffolding as it was an old, listed building. We put up an independent scaffold so that the structure would not use the building to bear weight, and this would ensure no damage would occur to the walls or the roof.
What we did: We erected an independent scaffold structure that was approximately 9 metres long and just over 4 metres high. We installed 2 boarded lifts (including the top walkway) and also added additional bracing to shore up the structure. The top lift was fully boarded and 5 boards wide, with access by ladder from the ground. This platform also had handrails and toe boards as standard.
We erected the top working platform to gutter height for easy access to the roof, we then erected an access walkway up from the top platform, and this was 4 metres long and 1.2 metres wide. This was so our client could inspect and survey the flat roof behind the main roof section on this property. This small walkway was four boards wide with full fall protection and ladder access that was positioned from the top lift of the independent scaffold.
Hire period: The hire period for this scaffolding was eight weeks so our customer could complete all of their repairs and inspections in plenty of time. Care was taken when removing our equipment from this listed building after the 8 weeks rental was up.
