Customer needs: This client required a scaffolding price for access to their windows, including the dormer windows on the roof. The property was a standard 2 storey terrace, so we quoted £450 with 4 weeks hire included within the price.
Difficulties we faced: There were no significant issues we encountered when erecting this structure, access was great, and we could park our truck directly outside the property. No pavement licence was needed because we had a small front garden to erect our scaffolding in. We did need to be mindful of the telephone line attached to the house, making sure our lads did not knock the wire or damage it whilst they were manoeuvring our equipment and putting the scaffold up.
What we did: We erected a 4.0-metre wide by 6 metres high tower, which had 4 scaffold lifts. We had to consider the bay ground floor window and build our 1st scaffolding lift around this. The 2nd lift was placed directly at the bottom of the 2nd-floor windows. Our scaffolders then installed the 3rd lift and then the 4th top platform right beneath the dormer windows. Both working platforms had double handrails and toe board protection fitted with the whole tower being created 6 scaffolding boards wide. We installed ladder access from the ground to the 1st working area, and then another steel ladder was fixed to reach the dormer working lift. We were required to lay a 13ft scaffold board in a horizontal position across the roof as we needed to ‘throw’ (extend) into this area with 8ft transoms and then board this platform from the inside ledger inwards as the dormer was set back into the sloping roof.
Our scaffolders erected 6x 21ft galvanised steel scaffolding tubes as standards (uprights) for this tower and 15x 13ft timber scaffold boards on both boarded platforms, including the board placed on the tiled roof.
Hire period: The hire period for this tower was 4 weeks, which provided our client with enough time to complete the works they were undertaking on the windows.
