Customer needs: A restaurant in West Sussex needed a scaffolding structure at the front of their 2-storey commercial building to access the signage so that repair work could proceed.
Difficulties we faced: This was a high street job, so our lads took extra care whilst erecting scaffolding within a public area. We were required to apply for a pavement licence from the local council, which allows us to erect scaffolds in locations the public will access. Our scaffolders installed all of the necessary health and safety features to this structure to ensure everyone was safe when in contact with the framework.
What we did: This was a small structure needed to access the signage above the restaurant. The scaffolding measured approximately 7.0 metres long and had a single working platform. This base lift scaffold was erected just above the ground floor window to give our customer plenty of room to reach the top of the sign. The working platform was 5x scaffold planks wide with a boarded edge and double handrails around the structure’s perimeter. We were required to keep the restaurant’s doorway clear and placed yellow hi-visibility foam around all of the tubes at ground level. We also put the metal base plates onto yellow plastic tredda plates for additional pedestrian safety. Our scaffolders used 13ft scaffolding tubes as standards and 3x 8ft scaffold tubes as diagonal bracing. Ladder access was supplied to the right-hand side of the structure.

Hire period: Changing the signage only took a few days, so the hire period for this scaffolding was 7 days; this gave our customer the time they needed to complete the repairs.
