Description

Key Benefits of Choosing Our Metal Scaffold Boards

  • Maximum Safety – Anti-slip perforated surface and reinforced edges reduce the risk of slips, even in wet or oily conditions.
  • Long Service Life – Hot-dip galvanised steel resists rust, warping, and rot far longer than timber boards.
  • High Load Capacity – Supports heavy loads reliably, ideal for multiple workers and equipment.
  • Low Maintenance – No painting, sealing or chemical treatments needed – just clean and store.
  • Weatherproof & Fire-Resistant – Perfect for outdoor sites and high-risk environments.
  • Sustainable Choice – 100% recyclable at the end of life.
  • Quick Installation – Integrates seamlessly with steel tube-and-fitting scaffold structures.

Switching to metal scaffold boards typically reduces replacement frequency and improves site safety records.

Although our galvanised metal scaffold boards outperform in durability, weather resistance, and longevity for most projects, for lighter handling and more traditional planks, explore our range of timber scaffold boards – sustainably sourced European whitewood available in new, reclaimed, or unbanded varieties for reliable, eco-friendly performance

  • 3ft–5ft: Best for confined spaces, mobile towers, or short lifts.
  • 6ft–8ft: Most popular for general construction and trade work.
  • 10ft–13ft: Ideal when you need to span wider bays or create larger working platforms.

Always ensure the span does not exceed the recommended maximum for the chosen length. For dedicated staging setups or wider working surfaces without full scaffold frames, check our aluminium staging boards (450/600mm wide, up to 5.95m long).

Our 1.2mm boards strike the best balance between strength, weight, and cost for most users. Thicker boards (1.5–2.0mm) are available on request for very high-load applications.

Hose down with water or use a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the galvanisation.

Absolutely. The galvanised finish and drainage holes make them ideal for year-round outdoor use.

Yes – the hooks are designed to fit most standard frame and system scaffolding (48.3mm tube diameter) used in the UK and Europe.

Metal boards are noticeably heavier due to the steel construction. For example, a 6ft metal board weighs around 10–11 kg, while a standard 6ft timber board is typically 4–6 kg lighter. This added weight improves stability and load capacity but means more effort when handling or transporting them—use mechanical aids or team lifts for longer sizes.

Yes, like any metal, they can conduct heat and cold. In direct summer sun, they may feel warm/hot to the touch, while in winter, they can feel very cold. However, the anti-slip surface remains effective, and many users prefer them in very hot climates because they don’t absorb moisture or swell like timber.

No, unlike timber, steel boards should not be cut, drilled, or modified. Doing so compromises the galvanisation, structural integrity, and safety certification. If you need a non-standard length, order custom sizes from the manufacturer where possible.

Yes, they are non-combustible and perform much better than timber in fire situations. This makes them a preferred choice for petrochemical sites, refineries, and other environments with strict fire safety requirements.

Check for visible damage such as dents, bends, cracked welds/hooks, excessive rust (beyond light white oxidation on galvanising), or deformation. Ensure hooks are secure and not bent. Clean off debris and verify the anti-slip surface isn’t excessively worn. Discard or tag out any damaged boards—never use compromised ones.

Minor scratches usually self-heal through galvanic protection (zinc sacrificially corrodes to protect the steel). For more serious damage, you can apply cold galvanising spray or zinc-rich paint as a touch-up. Severe corrosion or red rust indicates the board should be retired.

Yes, they’re designed for outdoor storage thanks to the hot-dip galvanising. Stack them neatly (hooks aligned to avoid pressure points), off the ground if possible, and allow air to circulate to prevent moisture from becoming trapped. Avoid prolonged contact with standing water or corrosive chemicals.

The main trade-offs are a higher initial weight (harder to manhandle), the inability to overlap or fasten with nails/screws, and typically a higher upfront cost. However, the much longer lifespan, lower maintenance, and better safety often make them more economical over time.
