Customer needs: This customer needed a very small scaffolding tower to access a small section of the roof on a 2-storey property. The tower was only 2.4 metres wide and 5 metres high, so we charged our minimum scaffolding call out fee of £250 to supply, erect and dismantle this access tower. The scaffolding was only needed for several days however we included 7 days hire in our price should the works take longer than expected.
Difficulties we faced: This was a very easy scaffold tower to put up and did not require a lot of our equipment, so we were able to transport our materials on one of our smaller trucks, rather than a large lorry. Access was great and no pavement licence was needed because we were able to put the tower up in the front garden of the property.
What we did: Our scaffolders built a roofing scaffold for access to the tiles of this house that was approximately 8ft wide by 16ft high. We used four 21ft steel tubes as standards (uprights) for this structure, a total of 6 transoms, 2 inward braces and 2 outwards, and 2 x 10ft sway braces on the front of this scaffolding. We installed a total of two lifts on this scaffold with the second top lift sitting at gutter height to enable easy access to the roof. The top working lift was fully boarded and six boards wide, we also added double handrails, and toe boards to prevent falling from height. Ladder access was provided to the right-hand side of the tower. This took our scaffolders just over 1 hour to put up for our customer.

Hire period: The hire period for this tower was one week which gave the customer more than enough tme to complete the very small amount of roofing works that were required.
