Scaffolding for access to a downpipe at Parham House & Gardens, Pulborough, RH20. 28 days hire – price £600.

Platform for downpipe access, Parham House & Gardens, Pulborough, RH20

Service type:  Access scaffold tower for repairs.

Address: Parham House & Gardens, Pulborough, RH20.

Customer needs: We were contacted by this customer as they needed a scaffold to inspect and perform repairs on the top hopper of a down pipe that was part of Parham house, which is a historical grade 2 listed building in West Sussex. We gave our customer a price of £600 with four weeks scaffolding hire for a scaffold tower that was approx. 26ft high.

Difficulties we faced: There were no issues faced when erecting this scaffold and we were easily able to access this area of the building. However, we were required to take extra care when on the grounds of Parham house and also when putting up this scaffold. Due to the age of the building, we added yellow end caps to all of the transom tubes that were touching the walls of this grade 2 listed building, and this was to ensure there was no damage caused.

What we did: This scaffolding tower was built four metres wide and eight metres high and had 3 inside uprights (standards) and 3 outside uprights with 2 rakers tied back to the scaffolding to provide extra stability. We erected four lifts in total with only two of the scaffolding lifts needing to be boarded out. Handrails and toe boards were also installed to each working platform. The first scaffold lift we put up had scaffolding boards placed onto it and this was so a ladder could be safely attached for our customer to climb up onto the fourth lift. This fourth scaffolding lift which was also boarded out was used to access the down pipe’s top section. Our customer was then able to see the hopper and investigate the problem where they found the top to be full of debris which was causing the leak.

Hire period: We provided our customer with four weeks hire for this tower; however, this was a pretty straight forward repair job, so our client only required the scaffold for approximately 7 days. We then returned and dismantled the scaffolding at a time convenient to our customer. For sensitive access to historic and listed properties, we provide specialist heritage restoration scaffolding that meets conservation requirements, uses non-invasive methods, and minimises visual/structural impact.
