Service type: Scaffolding platforms for a new build double storey extension.
Address: Artel Croft, Three Bridges, Crawley RH10 1JS.
Customer needs: We were contacted to provide a quotation to erect scaffolding to allow a customer to continue with a new 2-storey extension. We quoted for 5 sides plus an internal birdcage scaffolding. The total cost for these platforms was £1550, including a 12-week rental period. Our customer was keen to get us booked in as soon as possible so they could continue with the build.
Difficulties we faced: There were no issues when erecting and dismantling this scaffold, it was on residential property down a quiet road in Crawley. The scaffolding was not a straight run, so we were required to do a lot of small returns which took a little longer than usual.
What we did: We erected the following access platforms in and around the new double storey extension: A 4m scaffold which was 3 boards wide with a 15m run which was 6 scaffold boards wide, then there was a further 15m that was 3 planks wide followed by another 11m of scaffold that was also 6-boards wide and finally a further 4m run of access platform which was again 6 scaffolding boards in width.
The first scaffolding platform was 1.8 metres high, but this structure will be a total of 3 working platforms when finished. Each working area had timber toe boards secured using single couplers and 2 safety handrails fixed with double couplers to the scaffolding to prevent equipment and users from falling.
We were also required to erect a 4m internal scaffold which was also 1.8m high and was 6 boards wide. This scaffold allowed the builders to continue building the new extension and ensured they was able to move around freely and stack their materials with ease.
Hire period: This scaffolding was hired to our customer for 12 weeks to give them enough time to complete the build. This tailored scaffold provided flexible access for the full duration of the double-storey extension.
