Temporary roof scaffold, Portland Road, Worthing - Cost £9500

Project:

Temporary roof scaffold.

Location: Portland Road, Worthing.

Total cost: £ 9,500, including a pavement licence.

Project Overview

This case study details the successful delivery of a scaffolding project to support the installation of a temporary roof cover over a property on Portland Road, Worthing. The primary objective was to provide a safe, stable working platform while protecting the building from the elements during construction.

Project Specifications

The project required a comprehensive scaffolding solution with distinct requirements for the building’s front and rear elevations.

Scaffolding Details

Front elevation: We erected scaffolding to a height of approximately 10 metres, comprising 5 lifts. The working platform was constructed with a depth of 5 boards and included a secure ladder gate for controlled site access and safety. For enhanced worker protection, the working platforms were equipped with double handrails and toe boards, ensuring both stability and fall prevention.

Rear elevation: The rear scaffold was erected to approximately 8 metres, consisting of 4 lifts. This section also featured a platform depth of 5 boards, with double handrails and toe boards installed throughout to maintain a safe working environment.

Temporary roof: The tin hat scaffold spanned approximately 5.0 linear metres in width at the front and rear of the property. The roof framework was supported by 4 rows of 12-metre-long, 450 mm aluminium lattice beams, and 56 corrugated metal roofing sheets were used for the roof covering. Monarflex sheeting was installed to provide additional weather protection around the perimeter of the temporary roof.

Additional safety measures: To enhance site safety and prevent damage, protective foam was fitted around all ground-level vertical scaffold tubes, minimising the risk of injury or accidental impact for workers and passers-by.

Licensing and Costs

To lawfully occupy the public pavement, we needed to obtain a specific licence, which we secured. In Worthing, the licence fee is currently £256 for four weeks, with the project scheduled to last 12 weeks.

Scaffolding Experience in Worthing

With multiple working lifts and temporary roof and pavement licensing to coordinate, this was one of the more substantial structures our Worthing scaffolding team completed, with the scaffold providing protected access across both elevations throughout the 12-week project.

Conclusion

The Portland Road project involved installing a temporary scaffold roof, meticulously engineered to meet rigorous safety protocols and statutory compliance standards. The scaffold was carefully designed, from tailored heights for the front and rear elevations to precise platform depths and protective features, ensuring the highest levels of worker security and public safety. We installed double handrails, toe boards, and secure ladder gates to reduce fall risks, while protective foam around ground-level vertical tubes helped prevent accidental injury or impact. The use of high-quality materials and adherence to licensing requirements reflected a commitment not only to structural integrity but also to safeguarding everyone on and around the site. These comprehensive measures underscore our company’s dedication to exceeding industry benchmarks for safety and regulatory compliance.
